Due to the rapid suburbanization of poverty, many schools in economically disadvantaged areas need a wrap-around service approach like a Community School Initiative (CSI) that supports students and their families, helps improve educational outcomes and increases parental engagement.

With a Community School approach, vulnerable children and their families have better access to a range of wraparound services addressing health issues, language barriers, food insecurity, school readiness, and more. When these programs are made available at the school, working parents do not have to worry about how to ensure their children can participate in activities and enrichment programs. The CSI also includes programs that are designed to increase parental involvement and help children improve both attendance and grades. Most of the CSI activities are offered free of charge or at reduced cost, thanks to the generous donations of time and services from numerous community organizations.

In 2016, 100WomenStrong partnered with Loudoun Education Foundation to create a Community School Initiative at Sterling Elementary School, which brought together nonprofits, private companies and government agencies for the benefit of the school kids and surrounding community.

The program proved so successful that it is being expanded to include all six Title 1 schools in Loudoun County. In 2018, the philanthropic group created a $100,000 challenge grant to expand the program to include Forest Grove, Sugarland, Guilford, Sully, and Rolling Ridge elementary schools beginning in Fall 2019.
